Pasatiempo GC To Host
2004 USGA Senior Women's Amateur

TravelGolf.com Staff Report

Far Hills, N.J. (MAY 3, 2001) -- Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, Calif., has been selected as the site of the 2004 USGA Senior Women's Amateur Championship, the United States Golf Association has announced. The dates of the championship are October 9-14.

Designed by Dr. Alister MacKenzie, who lived adjacent to the course, Pasatiempo opened in 1929. Tom Doak, a MacKenzie aficionado, has handled several revisions since 1995.

Taking advantage of the natural setting, Pasatiempo features steep ravines or bluffs called barranca, particularly on the last nine holes. A rolling layout with many trees and bunkers, its par-3 holes are considered very challenging.

With the USGA Senior Women's Amateur, the USGA will be making its second visit to Pasatiempo. It conducted the U.S. Women's Amateur there in 1986, which was won by Kay Cockerill. Pasatiempo is also the annual site of the Western Intercollegiate Championship.

"Pasatiempo Golf Club and its members are thrilled to host the USGA Senior Women's Amateur in 2004," said Bruce Black, general chairman. "I am certain that each contestant will leave knowing that they have competed on one of America's classic golf courses and have survived 18 of the game's most difficult greens."

Prior to 2004, the USGA Senior Women's Amateur will be held at Allegheny Country Club in Sewickley, Pa., from Sept, 10-15, 2001 and at Mid Pines Inn and Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C., from Oct. 5-10, 2002.
